Inspired by the NYC-based reggae artist Shinehead’s 1992 single, “Jamaican in New York,” which was a witty cover of Sting’s famous “Englishman in New York.” It appeared on his Sidewalk University album, and is probably his best-known song. NYC is also known as a landmark on the reggae map, thanks to its large Jamaican community, not to mention several famous labels, sound systems, and reggae distributors.
